ICONS South Luzon, Wadhwani Foundation foster University-Driven Entrepreneurship to promote startup development; launch free application

In a roundtable discussion held at the Steerhub Buiding, Batangas State University – Alangilan Campus, Innovation Consortium (ICONS) South Luzon, along with other members of the academic and entrepreneurial sectors, pinpointed the fortification of entrepreneurship in universities, especially among students of Engineering, Business Management, and Hospitality Management.

The discussion also focused on leveraging academic resources to drive entrepreneurial growth and was led by Mr. Cris Delgado, Regional Director for Southeast Asia from the Wadhwani Foundation, a Silicon Valley non-profit organization.

Representatives from UB CBI, UBLC faculty members, De La Salle Lipa Nexus Lab, First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) Brainsparks, De La Salle University Animo Labs, Batangas State University Center for Technopreneurship and Innovation (CTI), UPLB Sibol Business Incubators, and BSU department heads, participated in the event.

Moreover, he introduced an innovative application designed to help students and faculty develop and practice entrepreneurial skills.

This application functions similarly to a learning management system (LMS) which is specifically designed for aspiring entrepreneurs within the academic community.

It features artificial intelligence to provide instant guidance to its users which directly answers within the app.

This involves reinforcing the capacities of faculty members and even non-teaching personnel on the value of startups and concepts such as Lean Methodologies and design thinking, among others.

By providing students and faculty with the right tools and support, universities can cultivate a new generation of entrepreneurs who will drive economic growth and societal progress.

Furthermore, the event underscored the synergy between academic institutions and entrepreneurial support organizations, aiming to create an ecosystem that nurtures the entrepreneurial spirit.

Participants exchanged ideas, discussed challenges, and explored opportunities for further collaboration, leaving with a renewed commitment to fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem within their respective institutions.
